It depends on the crop of the profile photo. You can reposition the thumbnail only a little bit. While you are editing your profile hover over the photo. "Change picture" will show up. Click it. Drop down text will show up. Click "Edit thumbnail" toward the bottom. Place the cursor over the thumbnail, grab it, and move around.
